About us

Leading the energy expansion

As a nationwide transmission provider, we develop, own, and operate high-voltage systems that power our homes and businesses. We strengthen the U.S. electric grid, efficiently and effectively connecting communities with new and diverse sources of electricity.
What we do

Strengthen the grid

We have built more than 780 miles of high-voltage transmission systems, with another 400 or more miles in development and additional projects planned. Our systems span 5 RTOs/ISOs and help support energy planning across 28 states, serving over 185 million people.

A Strong Foundation

We’re a leader in the expanding electric transmission industry.

LS Power Grid is a wholly owned subsidiary of LS Power, a leading energy infrastructure firm founded in 1990.

LS Power Grid has built a robust transmission platform, with 7 regulated utilities in operation and numerous grid infrastructure projects in development across 9 states. We enable large-scale transmission development to support a more resilient, efficient, and modern electric grid.

OUR history

Key Highlights

Since 2005, LS Power has grown its competitive transmission business into a national, independent developer, owner, and operator of transmission infrastructure to power America's progress.

2005–2009

LS Power Grid laid the foundation for its transmission business by acquiring the rights to build an inter-regional transmission line in Nevada and earned a pivotal role in the buildout of the Texas Competitive Renewable Energy Zone (CREZ) initiative, a program designed to spur investment in the state's power grid.

2010–2014

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued Order No. 1000, which encouraged more competition in transmission planning. LS Power Grid became a leading advocate for transparency in transmission development and ownership. LS Power Grid also placed Cross Texas Transmission and ON Line in service.

2015–2019

LS Power Grid solidified a leadership position in the industry by winning bids to develop transmission projects across key U.S. energy planning regions, including CAISO, MISO, NYISO, and PJM.

2020–2024

Expanding our operational reach, LS Power Grid energized new transmission utilities across multiple regions and earned more awards to develop competitive transmission projects nationwide.

2025+

LS Power Grid California placed the Orchard Substation in service in California, marking its first operating facility in the state. LS Power Grid also earned a competitive award to develop another transmission project in MISO.

Core Tenets

Grounding our work

Our infrastructure transmits electricity safely and efficiently, delivering cost-competitive solutions to power America’s progress.

We upgrade aging infrastructure, relieve congestion across the grid, make the grid more reliable and resilient, and enable the flow of power from diverse generation resources to meet growing electricity demand.

We are dedicated to protecting our people.

We have a strong track record of safety performance since our first transmission utility was energized in 2013. In 2025 alone, we had zero OSHA recordable incidents across our utilities with over 243,000 hours worked. But, our commitment to safety extends beyond tracking incidents. We prioritize a strong safety culture by providing extensive training and evaluating near misses. Our polices enforce accountability at all levels to ensure safe practices and continuous improvement, and we hold our third-party contractors to the same high standards.

We design, construct, and operate our facilities to ensure reliability.

We have dedicated teams of operators, engineers, and technicians that staff our facilities around the clock to ensure the reliable and secure operation of our transmission systems. Operational performance of our transmission utilities is strong. In 2024 alone, our operating utilities averaged 100% availability, and had a higher rate of availability than the industry average reported by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) over the past five years.

We take a careful approach in developing and operating our assets that is protective of the environment.

We consult with communities, landowners, and regulators to help inform our projects. Environmental surveys guide us and facilitate route and design adjustments. We support sustainable practices like vegetation management, wildlife habitat studies, and wildfire mitigation plans around our transmission systems. We aim to minimize our impact on communities and the environment and comply with all federal and state regulations. We also work with agencies and organizations to restore work areas to pre-construction conditions or better.

Competition benefits consumers by lowering costs, driving innovation, and reducing risk.

We lead the way in advocating for a transparent, competitive approach to transmission development and ownership, one that challenges the traditional incumbent utility model. Competition drives innovation and leads to better cost control. Competition has transformed the transmission industry’s future, and we’re leading the charge to advocate against anti-competitive practices that stifle innovation and raise costs for consumers.

We help meet the nation’s critical power needs while keeping costs to build and maintain energy infrastructure affordable.

We serve states, grid planners, and communities to expand transmission infrastructure and connect efficiently to new and diverse power sources. Our innovative solutions keep projects on track and costs down, ensuring price certainty and risk mitigation for grid operators and electricity consumers
