Republic Transmission: Hiple to Helix (Indiana)
Commissioned through the regional transmission planning process, Republic Transmission will develop, build, and own a high-voltage transmission line in northern Indiana. The line will extend from the Hiple Substation in LaGrange County to the Indiana–Michigan border in Steuben County.
In 2023, Republic Transmission was selected by the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) to develop, construct, own, and operate the Indiana portion of Hiple to Helix, a new 345 kV electric transmission line connecting Indiana and Michigan. Republic Transmission will construct the portion of this transmission line from Northern Indiana Public Service Company’s (NIPSCO) existing Hiple Substation in LaGrange County to the Indiana-Michigan state border in Steuben County. The Michigan portion of the Hiple-to-Helix line is being developed by Michigan Electric Transmission Company (METC), extending from the state border to METC’s planned Helix Substation in Calhoun County, Michigan.

Republic Transmission is hosting a series of in-person public open house meetings to share information about the Hiple-to-Helix (Indiana) Project and gather community feedback on potential route options. These meetings will feature detailed maps showing potential route options and provide an opportunity to ask questions and speak directly with Republic Transmission representatives and technical experts.
Please note that there will not be a formal presentation as part of these meetings. Detailed maps showing the route options and other information will be available for individuals to review. Individuals have the opportunity to visit with us anytime between 4:00 and 7:00 PM to ask questions and to provide comments to representatives and technical experts from Republic Transmission regarding the proposed transmission line. Republic Transmission and its consultants will consider information gained during these public open house meetings in the overall routing evaluation.
