DesertLink
DesertLink is an electric transmission utility in Nevada with a mission to ensure reliable and cost-effective electric transmission in the western United States.
DesertLink’s transmission facilities provide additional import and export capability between Nevada and southern California, improving the reliability and resiliency of the grid, and lowering electricity costs for consumers.
History
2016
In 2016, DesertLink was selected by CAISO through a competitive solicitation to support the flow of energy in and out of California by expanding the CAISO footprint into southern Nevada.
2020
In 2020, DesertLink’s first transmission line was placed in service. Located near Las Vegas, DesertLink’s footprint connects the Harry Allen Substation to the Eldorado Substation. DesertLink is jointly owned by LS Power and NV Energy.
2028
By 2028, DesertLink plans to add a new 500 kV transmission line connection between the Harry Allen-Eldorado transmission line and the Sloan Canyon Substation. This is part of a CAISO-approved transmission project.
